Injuries dog Group H

Midfielder Marcos Senna (Villarreal) was the big omission from Spain's final 23. Coach Vicente del Bosque also named three uncapped players in Victor Valdes and Pedro (both Barcelona) and Javi Martinez of (Athletic Bilbao) and stuck with injured but potential matchwinners Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona) and Fernando Torres (Liverpool). Goalkeepers Diego Lopez (Villarreal) and Gea (Atletico Madrid), striker Dani Guiza (Fenerbache) and winger Santi Cazorla (Villarreal) missed out, while Bojan Krkic (Barcelona), Sergio Canales (Racing Santander) and Raul (real Madrid) failed even to make the provisional 30.

Chile defender Roberto Cereceda (Colo Colo) goes home after Marco Estrada (Universidad de Chile) recovered from injury. Coach Marcelo Bielsa has gambled on the fitness of forward Humberto Suazo (Zaragoza). Goalkeeper Cristopher Toselli (Catolica), midfielders Jaime Valdes (Atalanta), Manuel Iturra (Universidad de Chile), Charles Aranguiz (colo Colo), Jose Pedro Fuenzalida (Catolica) and Pedro Morales (Dinamo Zagreb) and forward Hector Mancilla (Toluca) were not so lucky.

Honduras coach Reinaldo Rueda drafted in Georgie Welcome (Motagua) to replace injured striker Carlos Costly (Vaslui). He also omitted the Honduran league's top scorer Jerry Bengtson (Vida).

Switzerland coach has had the double wammy of having to replace two of his 23-man squad which he announced three weeks ago. First defender Christoph Spycher (Eintracht Frankfurt ) withdrew with a knee injury, to be replaced by Ludovic Magnin (FC Zurich); then Striker Marco Streller (Basle) tore a muscle in training and had to be replaced by Albert Bunjaku (Nuremburg).
